Painting in the summer

July 31, 2010

Today I spent the morning and into the afternoon painting. I am preparing for a one-man show scheduled for October. Two paintings were finished, one started and I was working on two others when I had to quit. My painting area is not air conditioned and it was so hot the oil paints became too soft to use. Painting with a palette knife became almost impossible. It is good to be a morning person.

My Personal Challenge

July 7, 2010

Here are the three paintings of my personal portrait challenge.  The final framing was completed today and this is the first time I have had all three together.  With these three I am facing the same dilemma I face with many of my paintings.  I hate to see them leave.  These have been promised and I look forward to sharing them with those who provided the models.  This turned out better than I could have ever imagined.  The diversity of the subjects and the fun of the execution have made this a great experience.

The Herd

July 5, 2010

This weekend I have been focusing on paintings for my one-man show scheduled for October. The show is entitled “The Herd” and will feature paintings of cattle. While I have finished only two this weekend, several more are in various stages. Within the next few weeks others will be completed. This week I hope to visit a ranch and take additional photographs of models.
